The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has flagged over 40 Facebook accounts and nearly 10 TikTok accounts for suspected racially motivated coordinated inauthentic activity within the past 24 hours.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil explained that these accounts were sharing a video depicting an incident between Indian and Malay individuals, accompanied by a consistent narrative.
“A news clip went viral, claiming that an Indian gangster attacked a Malay landowner, with subtle racial undertones embedded in the posts. Almost all shared the same video and wording,” he told Bernama. “Investigations into the circulation of such content are ongoing, and any effort to stir racial tension will not be tolerated.”
Authorities clarified that the viral footage, showing a four-wheel drive allegedly ramming a motorcyclist at Kampung Sungai Jernih in Kajang, was unrelated to gangsterism or racial conflict.
Selangor Police Chief Shazeli Kahar noted that initial findings point to a personal dispute over land and lorry access as the cause of the incident.
