An attempt to illegally import three containers carrying frozen pork and fish products worth more than RM1.03 million was thwarted by authorities at Westports here yesterday.
The seizures were made during three separate operations conducted over a two-hour period beginning at 10am by the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) at the CFS 4 Container Inspection Centre.
Port Klang Entry Point Commander Datuk Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the first operation involved a container of frozen pork imported from Belgium.
Inspections revealed approximately 27,000 kilogrammes (kg) of animal products estimated to be worth RM486,658.17.
Multiple Containers Seized
In a subsequent operation, AKPS officers detected a container carrying agricultural products described as cat litter imported from China. The shipment weighed 28,001kg and was valued at RM46,414.38.
About an hour later, enforcement personnel seized another container containing frozen pangasius fillets from Vietnam. The fish products weighed 24,920kg with an estimated value of RM490,726.29.
Nik Ezanee said the total weight of the seized goods amounted to 79,921.6kg, with a combined value of RM1,031,798.84.
Permit Violations Under Investigation
All three cases are being investigated under Sections 15(1), 11(1) and 13 of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728).
He explained that the offences involved failure to comply with permit conditions, absence of valid import permits from the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis), as well as the submission of misleading documentation.
The successful operations underscore continued efforts by enforcement agencies to safeguard the country’s borders against the illegal entry of controlled goods.
