Robber Claims Fear of Mob Violence Led Him to Contact Police and Admits All His Crimes

A robber in Surabaya, East Java, drew public attention after calling the police for protection, fearing he would be beaten by local residents, reported news portal Lambe Turah.

A video uploaded on TikTok by the account @officiainews shows the suspect giving a statement to several police officers at the Surabaya Police Headquarters after being arrested. During questioning, he admitted to committing three robberies, all of which involved female victims.

The suspect said he was chased by locals and became trapped in a dead-end alley. “I met a husband and wife there and asked them to call the police because I was afraid of being attacked by the local residents,” he explained.

The video has garnered over 143,000 views and sparked various reactions online. One netizen commented, “Better to call the police than get beaten,” while another added, “Only after being caught by the residents did he remember the police.”
