A 49-year-old man in Thailand was brutally attacked and killed outside his house while his wife desperately begged the assailants to stop. Police were called around 8.57pm on Monday (16 Feb) to a fatal assault in Non Daeng district, Nakhon Ratchasima province. Officers arriving at the scene discovered a large pool of blood, and the victim, identified as Akkarachai Kaewkla, had already been taken to Non Daeng Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Medical reports confirmed he suffered blunt force trauma to the head and stab wounds to the abdomen.
Authorities arrested two suspects from the same village the following morning (17 Feb), identified as Somchai, 50, and Supphakorn, 62. The pair admitted to having argued with Akkarachai earlier that evening. Around 8pm, they returned to his residence and lured him outside, with his wife, Kruawan Thongdeenok, 51, following. Kruawan, who serves as an assistant village head, recounted that she knelt and pleaded with the attackers to stop, but they continued to strike her husband with a long hooked knife and a wooden stick until he collapsed.
Police investigations revealed the confrontation stemmed from a dispute on 14 Feb at Akkarachai’s cassava plantation. Somchai reportedly tried to intervene in a quarrel between Akkarachai and his wife, but the victim struck him, leaving him injured. Harboring resentment, Somchai returned two days later with Supphakorn to confront Akkarachai, and the encounter escalated fatally.
The hooked knife and wooden stick believed to have been used in the attack were seized by police. Both suspects now face charges of intentional homicide and carrying weapons in public without permission. The case will be forwarded to prosecutors and the court for further action.
