Black Swan Attacks Swimmer After Man Allegedly Enters Bird’s Territory In Park Lake

Date:

A man who allegedly ignored swimming restrictions at a public park in China found himself in an unexpected showdown after a territorial black swan launched a fierce attack while he was swimming in a lake.

The unusual incident took place at Baotou Olympic Sports Park in Inner Mongolia on June 14 and quickly went viral after bystanders recorded the dramatic encounter.

According to local media reports, the man entered the park’s artificial lake despite warning signs clearly prohibiting swimming.

Moments later, a black swan reportedly confronted the swimmer after he ventured into its territory.

Footage showed the swan repeatedly pecking at the man and striking him with its wings in an apparent attempt to drive him away.

Rather than immediately leaving the water, the swimmer remained in the lake, leading to what social media users jokingly described as a full-scale “man-versus-swan MMA match.”

Witnesses said the pair engaged in several rounds of confrontation, with splashing water and frantic movements creating a bizarre spectacle for onlookers.

Park officials later confirmed that three black swans have lived in the lake for the past three years and none of the birds were injured during the incident.

Authorities stressed that swimming in the lake is strictly prohibited and warning signs are displayed around the area.

Police have since launched an investigation and are reviewing surveillance footage to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

During questioning, the man reportedly claimed he was training for the 16th Inner Mongolia Games as a triathlon athlete.

Park officials said he may avoid penalties if he can provide proof that he is a registered competitor. Otherwise, he could face consequences for violating park regulations and disrupting public order.

The bizarre encounter has sparked widespread discussion online, with many netizens joking that the black swan was acting as the park’s unofficial security guard.

Others pointed out that black swans are highly territorial animals, especially during breeding season, and are known to aggressively defend their nesting areas.

Wildlife experts noted that black swans typically form lifelong pairs and possess strong territorial instincts. Their powerful wings can inflict injuries on humans, making encounters with the birds potentially dangerous.

The incident also revived memories of a similar case in 2022, when a university athlete in Nanjing was reportedly attacked by a black swan while swimming in a lake, leaving him with multiple scratches on his back.

Park authorities and animal welfare advocates have urged visitors to respect park rules and avoid entering animal habitats, warning that such actions can endanger both wildlife and the public.
