An elderly man was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment by the Sessions Court today for sexually assaulting two seven-year-old girls at a temporary evacuation centre (PPS).
Judge Mohd. Zul Zakiqudin Zulkifli delivered the sentence against 64-year-old Mohammed Rashid Rahmat after the defence failed to raise any reasonable doubt at the conclusion of the trial.
In addition to the prison term, the court also imposed two strokes of the cane and two years of police supervision following his release.
According to the charges, Mohammed Rashid allegedly committed the assaults on one of the victims, aged seven years and four months, in the corridor outside the Art and Visual Education room at a school in Kuala Nerus converted into a PPS.
He was also accused of assaulting the second victim, aged seven years and five months, outside another classroom in the same school. Both offences occurred between 6pm and 8pm on November 22, 2023.
Initial investigations, as reported by Kosmo! Online on November 23, 2023, indicated that the suspect lured the girls under the pretext of tutoring them before committing the assaults.
