Over 1,000 Arrested in RM1.1 Billion Smuggling and Trafficking Bust

Date:

From early January to August 4 this year, police carried out 288 raid operations across Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor, arresting a total of 1,005 individuals involved in smuggling and human trafficking activities, and seizing goods worth approximately RM1.1 billion.

Central Region Commander of the General Operations Force (PGA), Senior Assistant Commissioner Hakimi, said in a statement that these results stem from intensified patrols and enforcement, particularly along coastal areas. In Selangor alone, 10 raid operations led to the arrest of 15 “tekong” (human traffickers), comprising 8 locals and 7 Indonesians.

Additionally, police detained 224 undocumented migrants and seized approximately 10.35 kilograms of methamphetamine, 3.6 kilograms of ecstasy pills, and several vehicles, with an estimated total value of RM1.5 million.

The police stressed their commitment to continue cracking down on cross-border crimes and preventing the spread of smuggling and human trafficking activities.
