Former Norwegian PM Hospitalised Due to Intense Stress Amid Epstein-Linked Corruption Case

Date:

Former Norwegian Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland was rushed to hospital on Tuesday, February 24, following intense stress linked to an ongoing corruption investigation tied to his association with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. The hospitalisation comes shortly after Jagland was formally charged with “gross corruption,” related to a transactional relationship with Epstein between 2011 and 2018.

While some Norwegian media outlets suggested a suicide attempt, Jagland’s lawyer, Anders Brosveet, emphasised that the former PM was hospitalised due to extreme stress and medical risk, not a deliberate act. The legal team confirmed Jagland denies criminal liability and is fully cooperating with authorities.

Alleged Epstein Links Under Investigation

Documents from the Epstein Files reportedly indicate that Jagland sought diplomatic favours, luxury travel, and financial assistance for Epstein. These revelations prompted Norwegian authorities to launch an investigation into potential corruption. Jagland has acknowledged exercising “poor judgment” but maintains he did not commit a crime.

During his career, Jagland served as Norway’s Prime Minister from 1996 to 1997 and chaired the Norwegian Nobel Committee between 2009 and 2015. His charges followed the lifting of his immunity from the Council of Europe, which he led between 2009 and 2018.

Other Epstein-Linked Figures In Norway

The files also reveal Jagland planned a family visit to Epstein’s private island in 2014, which was cancelled due to Epstein’s illness. Correspondence suggested he attempted to assist Epstein in obtaining a bank loan, although it remains unclear if the transaction was completed. Police in Norway have not confirmed whether this allegation is under active review.

Jagland is not the only Norwegian figure mentioned in the Epstein Files. Crown Princess Mette-Marit publicly apologised for her friendship with Epstein after emails surfaced, stating she regretted disappointing the Royal Family and clarified that some messages did not reflect her true character.

While Epstein file mentions do not constitute accusations of wrongdoing, the case has placed Jagland under intense public and media scrutiny, contributing to the extreme stress that prompted his hospitalisation.
