A married couple tragically lost their lives after the Ford Mustang they were travelling in skidded and crashed into two power poles along KM13 of Jalan Segamat-Kuantan on Monday afternoon (August 4).
Segamat police chief Superintendent Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said the accident occurred as the vehicle, driven by a 50-year-old local man with his 30-year-old wife as a passenger, was heading towards Segamat. The driver is believed to have lost control of the classic American car, which veered to the left and collided with two electric poles. Both victims sustained severe injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to contact the traffic division at the Segamat police headquarters.
Segamat Fire and Rescue Station operations commander, Senior Fire Officer Abd Rahim Taufik, said a distress call was received at 1:46 pm, prompting the dispatch of a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) with six personnel to the site.
Upon arrival, rescuers used special tools to extricate the victims from the wreckage. The deceased have been identified as Mohd Izuddin Harmaini, 51, and Nur Syamimi Rosli, 36. Their bodies were handed over to the police for further action. The rescue operation concluded at 3:36 pm.
