University Student Collapses From Brain Hemorrhage After Four Days Without Sleep Playing Online Games

Date:

Maintaining healthy lifestyle habits isn’t just about your own wellbeing—it’s also about protecting the people who love you. ICU nurse Lin Ting recently shared a heartbreaking clinical case on social media, highlighting the dangers of extreme sleep deprivation.

A male university student reportedly stayed awake for four days and three nights during his winter break, playing online games non-stop. Despite repeated warnings from his mother, he refused to rest. One night, while getting up to use the bathroom, he suddenly screamed and collapsed. He was rushed to the intensive care unit, where doctors discovered a ruptured cerebral artery causing massive brain bleeding. Although surgery saved his life, he remained dependent on medication to maintain blood pressure and a ventilator for breathing. Removing the ventilator would have led to immediate death.

Lin described the family’s agonising decision to withdraw life support after realising the young man would not recover. She recalled the mother desperately calling out her son’s name at his bedside, a scene that left her visibly emotional.

In her video, Lin urged the public to prioritise health, warning that cerebral hemorrhage can be linked to factors such as overwork, sleep deprivation, long-term smoking, alcohol abuse, and excessive mental stress. She noted that poor lifestyle habits can weaken cerebral blood vessels over time, putting even otherwise healthy individuals at risk of rupture.

Lin emphasised that maintaining regular sleep patterns, balanced nutrition, moderate exercise, weight control, emotional stability, and routine health checks are key preventive measures—especially for those with a family history of cerebrovascular disease.
