Malaysia Equestrian Federation Targets Six Gold Medals at SEA Games 2027

Date:

The Equestrian Association of Malaysia (EAM) has set an ambitious target of winning six out of the 10 gold medals on offer at the 2027 SEA Games.

Honorary Secretary Yap Mou Soon said the goal is achievable, especially with Malaysia hosting the 34th edition of the Games, despite the national team securing only one gold medal at the previous edition in Thailand.

For the upcoming Games, EAM is proposing seven disciplines: show jumping (team and individual), dressage (team and individual), eventing (team and individual), and endurance.

In the endurance category, the association plans to introduce four events – open individual and team, as well as young rider individual and team.

“These are still preliminary discussions for SEA Games 2027. We have already set our medal targets and are outlining training phases and the financial support required. As with every competition, when we compete, we aim to return with medals,” said Yap after a working committee meeting with the National Sports Council (NSC).

At the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, Malaysia’s equestrian squad brought home one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal, while hosts Thailand topped the overall standings with three golds, two silvers, and one bronze.

Malaysia’s gold medal came through Megan Min Ern Ding in the individual dressage event. The silver was secured in team jumping by Norinne Ira Dewal Md Ali, Arysha Haya Kanda, N Shoorendran, and Adam Hariz Kamaludin. The bronze medal was won in team dressage by Amira Syahirah Mohd Zulkefli, Diani Lee, Quek Sue Yian, and Megan.

For the record, when Malaysia last hosted the SEA Games in 2017, the national equestrian team swept all six gold medals contested, a performance the association hopes to replicate in 2027.
