A Malaysian car salesperson’s recent story about a young man boosting his confidence by buying a used Honda Civic has gone viral online.
In a post shared by car dealer @jaajualkereta, the salesperson described a 27-year-old man earning RM3,800 a month who had been commuting by motorcycle for five years and had some savings. The man told the dealer, “I’m tired of people looking down on me,” explaining that he felt a lack of confidence when meeting clients.
Initially, he assumed the monthly instalment would exceed RM1,200. After reviewing the numbers, the salesperson showed that the 2018 Civic TC-P, priced around RM65,800, required about a 10% deposit, with insurance and road tax totaling roughly RM3,090. This worked out to a monthly commitment of around RM1,100, including maintenance, which the dealer considered reasonable if the buyer’s other financial obligations were low.
The man didn’t rush the decision, taking two days to consider his finances, a choice the dealer admired. When he returned on the third day, he said, “Brother, if I buy this, it’s not to show off. I just want to feel like I’ve moved up a little in life.”
A month later, he sent a message thanking the dealer: “It’s true — my confidence has increased when meeting clients and people around me.” The story has resonated online for highlighting how thoughtful decisions and small upgrades can positively impact self-esteem.
