Malaysia Condemns Military Strikes Against Iran In High-Level Talk With New Zealand PM

Date:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed Malaysia’s firm stance on global security following a high-level telephone conversation with his New Zealand counterpart, Christopher Luxon. During the discussion, both leaders exchanged views on the escalating developments in the Middle East and their far-reaching implications for international safety and the global economy. Anwar emphasized that Malaysia remains committed to a diplomatic resolution and the immediate cessation of hostilities in the region.

In a statement shared via social media, the Prime Minister reiterated Malaysia’s strong condemnation of military strikes against Iran. He stated that Malaysia rejects any unilateral actions that contravene international law, noting that such moves only serve to further destabilise the global order. Anwar continued to call for an immediate ceasefire and the protection of civilians, urging all involved parties to return to the negotiating table through established diplomatic channels.

The conversation also touched upon the economic fallout of the conflict, specifically regarding New Zealand’s energy sector. Both leaders noted that regional instability has led to rising fuel prices and increased pressure on domestic economies. Anwar expressed his support for the proactive measures taken by the New Zealand government to bolster its energy security and accelerate the transition toward renewable energy sources amidst these global challenges.

Furthermore, the two heads of government reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening bilateral relations under the existing Strategic Partnership framework. This cooperation spans several key sectors, including trade, investment, and energy collaboration. The Prime Minister noted that maintaining a strong partnership with New Zealand is essential for addressing common interests and navigating the complexities of the current geopolitical landscape.

The dialogue concluded with an agreement to remain in close contact as both nations confront ongoing global uncertainties. By aligning their efforts, Malaysia and New Zealand aim to mitigate the adverse effects of international conflicts on their respective populations. This diplomatic engagement underscores Malaysia’s proactive role in advocating for peace and legal adherence on the world stage while securing its economic future through strategic international alliances.
