Porsches, Teslas, and More Seized for Expired Road Tax and No Insurance!

Date:

Luxury car owners driving high-end vehicles like Porsche, Tesla, Mini Cooper, and Toyota Alphard in Negeri Sembilan have been caught forgetting to renew their road tax and insurance — leading to their vehicles being seized by authorities.

The Negeri Sembilan Road Transport Department (RTD) has intensified enforcement operations across the state, uncovering numerous cases of expired road tax and invalid insurance. Among the vehicles seized were luxury cars worth hundreds of thousands to over a million ringgit.

RTD Director Hanif revealed in a press conference that from January to July this year, the department detected 10,435 cases of expired road tax and 7,891 cases of invalid or no insurance during enforcement activities.

He stressed that these actions are carried out under the Road Transport Act 1987, covering violations including:

  • Section 23(1): Using a vehicle with expired or invalid road tax,
  • Section 26(1): Driving with an expired or invalid license or temporary permit,
  • Section 90(1): Operating a vehicle without valid insurance coverage.

Hanif expressed disbelief that some luxury car owners claimed they “forgot” to renew their road tax and insurance despite owning well-maintained and new models.

“All seized vehicles have been taken to the Negeri Sembilan RTD depot and will undergo further investigation under Section 333 of the Road Transport Act 1987 and related provisions,” he added.

He also warned that vehicles without valid insurance pose significant risks. In the event of an accident, uninsured vehicle owners cannot claim compensation, leaving victims vulnerable to serious financial and legal difficulties.

RTD urges all vehicle owners to regularly check and renew their road tax, insurance, and licenses to avoid legal troubles and unnecessary penalties.
