Police detained a 20-year-old undocumented foreign national less than 24 hours after receiving a rape report involving a 15-year-old girl in Kampung Merotai Besar, Tawau, Sabah here last night.
Tawau District Police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspect was nabbed at about 12.54am by officers from Bombalai Police Station in front of an unnumbered house in the village.
The arrest followed a report lodged at 12.08am the same day.
Initial investigations revealed the offence is believed to have occurred at about 2am on Feb 11 in a residence in the village.
The victim, a 15-year-old girl, claimed the suspect—who is her cousin’s boyfriend—entered her room without her knowledge before groping and forcing her into sexual intercourse, Jasmin said in a statement today.
The suspect is also accused of threatening the victim with harm to her family members, causing her to fear and submit.
The suspect, believed to be a Filipino without valid travel documents or identification, was taken to Tawau District Police Headquarters for further action.
The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code, with ongoing probes.
