Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the government is evaluating supplementary measures to modernise the national workforce, including the introduction of more flexible working arrangements for the public sector. Specifically, the administration is looking into the phased implementation of a Work From Home (WFH) policy for civil servants to ensure the continuity of essential public services. This strategic move is designed to adapt traditional labour methods to meet current global demands and environmental shifts while maintaining high levels of productivity across all government departments.
In addition to the public sector, the Prime Minister has strongly urged private industry leaders to adopt similar flexible working models. Anwar noted that several major corporations and banking institutions have already successfully integrated home-based work into their operations, proving the viability of the approach. He expressed confidence that such a transition across both sectors would contribute to a more resilient national economy, particularly as the world continues to face unprecedented logistical and social challenges that require innovative employment solutions.
The announcement was made during a Special Address focused on the nation’s strategic steps to strengthen preparedness in the face of a looming global energy crisis triggered by ongoing conflicts in Western Asia. Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, highlighted that these workplace adjustments are part of a broader effort to manage national resources more effectively. By reducing the physical footprint of the workforce where possible, the government aims to mitigate the impact of rising energy costs and ensure that the country’s energy security remains uncompromised.
The Prime Minister underscored that the government remains steadfast in its commitment to fiscal discipline and the elimination of financial leakages. He emphasised that preventing extravagance and wastage is essential to maintaining Malaysia’s current economic growth momentum, which he described as remarkably stable despite a general downturn in the global market. Anwar pointed out that Malaysia continues to be a highly attractive destination for active international investment, even amidst the backdrop of international turmoil and regional wars.
