Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Son Follows Father’s Legacy With Major Bodybuilding Debut Victory

Date:

Joseph Baena, the 28-year-old son of Hollywood icon Arnold Schwarzenegger, has officially cemented his own status as a bodybuilding champion. On Saturday, 28 March 2026, Baena took to Instagram to announce his triumphant debut at the NPC Natural Colorado State competition. Stepping onto the stage for the first time, he secured first-place finishes in multiple prestigious categories, including the Men’s Open Body Heavy Weight Class, Men’s Classic Physique True Novice, and Men’s Class Physique Novice.

The victory comes as a mechanical necessity for Baena’s burgeoning fitness career, following years of intensive training often side-by-side with his famous father. Just days before the competition, Baena was spotted at the legendary Gold’s Gym in Venice Beach, California, receiving expert tips and posing guidance from the seven-time Mr. Olympia winner. Schwarzenegger, now 78, famously began his own American journey at the same gym in the 1960s, eventually becoming arguably the most influential figure in the history of the sport before retiring from competition in 1980.

Despite his current ripped physique, Baena has been candid about his difficult journey toward physical fitness. The Gunner actor previously shared with his followers that he struggled with his weight during his youth, describing himself as “chubby” during his high school years. He revealed that he was once cut from both his basketball and soccer teams because he lacked the stamina to keep up with his peers. It was only after joining the swimming team—which notably did not require tryouts—bahat he found his introduction to consistent training and a healthy lifestyle.

Baena’s transformation is even more significant given his history of being bullied for his appearance. In previous interviews, he admitted that his struggle with weight led to him being harassed by classmates, including those he considered close friends, from late elementary school through the beginning of high school. He described feeling like an outsider during those formative years, noting that the mockery he endured actually served as the catalyst for his ambition to completely overhaul his physique and find his own identity within the world of fitness.

With this recent sweep at the NPC Natural Colorado State competition, Baena has proven that he is more than just the son of a legend. By recreating some of his father’s most iconic muscle poses on the championship stage, he has successfully bridged the gap between the Schwarzenegger legacy and his own professional aspirations. As he continues to balance acting with competitive bodybuilding, fans and fitness enthusiasts alike are watching closely to see if he will eventually aim for the same international titles that made his father a household name.
