Subang Jaya Police Hunt Suspect in Mall “Upskirt” Recording Incident

Date:

Police in Subang Jaya have intensified their search for a man suspected of recording illicit “upskirt” videos of a female shopper at a local mall. Subang Jaya Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat confirmed that a formal report was lodged at 1:16 PM on March 29 after footage of the act began circulating on social media.

The investigation was triggered by a video, originally uploaded to Facebook and later shared widely via CCTV recordings, showing a male suspect using a mobile phone to capture images beneath a woman’s skirt. While the footage has sparked significant public outrage and calls for swift justice, police are still working to officially identify both the suspect and the victim involved.

The case is currently being investigated under several strict legal frameworks:

  • Section 509 of the Penal Code: For insulting the modesty of a person, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in jail, a fine, or both.
  • Minor Offences Act 1955: Pertaining to insulting behavior.
  • Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998: Regarding the improper use of network facilities.

ACP Wan Azlan issued a stern warning to the public against further sharing or circulating the recordings. He emphasized that spreading the video not only compromises the victim’s dignity but could also jeopardize the integrity of the ongoing police investigation.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the suspect’s identity or the incident to contact Assistant Superintendent Siti Sarah Johari at 013-209 7958 or the Subang Jaya police headquarters at 03-7862 7222.
