SUV Driver Surrenders Over Fatal Penang Hit-And-Run That Killed Two Friends

Date:

A 23-year-old SUV driver suspected of being involved in a fatal hit-and-run that killed two friends along the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway in Penang on Thursday morning has surrendered to police.

The suspect, from Bukit Jambul, turned himself in at the Northeast District Police Headquarters at about 1pm, said Northeast police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad.

The crash claimed the lives of a 22-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman from Padang Serai, Kedah, who were riding a motorcycle and died at the scene.

Abdul Rozak said a urine screening test conducted on the suspect came back negative for drugs.

“The SUV driver will be brought for remand tomorrow for further investigation,” he said.

Post-mortem examinations found that the male motorcyclist died from severe head and neck injuries, while his female pillion rider suffered fatal head injuries.

The collision involved the motorcycle and an unidentified vehicle near the Penang Bridge interchange along the expressway.
