Woman Arrested After Body Of Newborn Found In Rubbish Bag Inside Shopping Mall Restroom

Date:

A Filipino national has been taken into police custody following the grim discovery of a deceased newborn baby inside a shopping mall restroom along Sukhumvit Road in Khlong Toei, Bangkok. The heart-wrenching incident came to light at approximately 4.24 pm on Friday, 20 March, when a mall cleaner alerted authorities after uncovering the infant’s body discarded in a rubbish bag.

Initial forensic examinations conducted at the scene revealed that the body belonged to a male newborn. Police officials noted a significant detail in their preliminary report, stating that the infant showed no visible signs of bruising or external injuries, though the exact cause of death remains under investigation.

The cleaner who made the discovery informed investigators that she was performing her routine duties when she noticed a black rubbish bag that felt unusually heavy. Sensing something was wrong, she moved the bag to a secure storage area and requested a security guard to inspect the contents, leading to the immediate notification of the Bang Khun Non Police and emergency responders.

Crucial evidence was obtained through the mall’s CCTV surveillance system, which captured a foreign woman entering the restroom facilities while pulling a pink suitcase. The footage further tracked her movements as she exited the shopping complex and boarded a taxi destined for the Bangkok Apiwatthana Bus Terminal, providing a clear lead for pursuing officers.

Acting swiftly on this information, police intercepted the suspect at the bus terminal shortly after her arrival. Authorities reported that the woman was found with visible bloodstains on her garments at the time of her arrest, and she has since been detained for further questioning to determine the circumstances surrounding the birth and the subsequent abandonment of the child.
