Penang Driver Seen Shaking In Car Says He Has Mental Health Condition, Not On Drugs

Date:

A video circulating on social media showing a man violently shaking while sitting in the driver’s seat of a car has sparked public speculation, with some netizens suggesting possible drug use.

In the footage, the young Chinese man is seen inside a white Honda vehicle, appearing to tremble uncontrollably while seated in the driver’s seat. The uploader is heard speaking in Hokkien, suggesting the driver was behaving abnormally. The clip also shows attempts to open the car door, before the driver eventually closes it and drives off. The vehicle’s registration plate indicated a Penang “P” series number.

However, the man at the centre of the viral video, identified as 27-year-old businessman Chen Sin Nan, has since come forward to clarify the incident, strongly denying allegations of drug abuse.

He explained that he suffers from a mental health condition, which causes uncontrollable shaking whenever he experiences stress or emotional distress. He said he relies on regular medication and medical treatment to manage his condition.

According to him, the incident happened when he was on his way home to collect his medication when he was confronted at a traffic light in Bukit Minyak, Penang, by a man who allegedly accused him of reckless driving.

He claimed the man became aggressive, shouted at him, snatched his phone, and even attempted to drag him out of the car, causing him to panic and trigger a severe trembling episode.

The man also alleged that the individual filmed him during the incident and later uploaded the video online, implying drug use involving an e-cigarette substance, which he says led to widespread public misunderstanding.

Chen stressed that he has been receiving psychiatric treatment for the past six months due to work-related stress and has been following prescribed medication regularly.

He added that the viral circulation of the video has caused significant emotional distress to both him and his family, leading to misunderstandings in his neighbourhood and affecting his daily life.

He has since lodged a police report and undergone a urine test, which he says confirmed he was not under the influence of drugs. He has also filed a complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), calling for action over the circulation of the video.

Chen is now urging the individual who recorded the video to issue a public apology and clarify the situation, saying the incident has severely damaged his reputation.
