A cleaning worker at a bowling centre in Tanjong Malim had reportedly complained of a headache to his wife just hours before he was found dead inside a storeroom at the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) Sports Bowl early Tuesday morning.
The incident came to light at around 1am when the victim’s wife arrived at the premises to look for him after he failed to return home following his shift the previous night.
UPSI Sports Bowl manager Dzulkarnain Sapian said he, along with the victim’s wife and another staff member, attempted to open the storeroom door, which is usually not locked. However, they were unable to do so as the victim’s head was blocking the door from inside.
He explained that security personnel later managed to gain access, allowing them to reposition the body and fully open the door.
Dzulkarnain confirmed that the victim, identified as 53-year-old Mohd Radzi Ariffin, was employed as a cleaner by a private company operating within the UPSI premises.
He added that the victim had earlier told his wife he was experiencing a headache, which was the only symptom known prior to the incident.
In a separate statement, UPSI vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff said the victim is believed to have suffered a heart attack, although a post-mortem is being conducted at Hospital Slim River to determine the exact cause of death.
The remains are expected to be buried at the Taman Bernam cemetery after funeral prayers are held at Masjid Al Mursyidin UPSI.
Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, while the university has pledged to monitor the situation closely and extend assistance to the victim’s family.
