Michelle Yeoh is officially making her long-awaited return to Chinese cinema with the upcoming film Miss R.

Produced by Media Asia, the movie follows the rebellious Zhao Yanhong, a 70-year-old troublemaker played by Michelle, who’s notorious for stirring up chaos in her nursing home. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she meets Wu Youwei, a mysterious Rubik’s Cube master running a stall at the bustling night market — a chance encounter that changes everything.
Opposite Michelle is Chinese actor Liu Haoran, marking their first on-screen pairing. Liu takes on the role of the enigmatic cube master, adding intrigue to the heartwarming yet unconventional story.

Miss R also marks Michelle Yeoh’s first Chinese-language role since winning the Oscar for Best Actress. Much like her character, Michelle embodies a fearless spirit — embracing challenges and proving that age is never a limit to living boldly.
The film is produced by Wen Muye and directed by Bai Xue. Its concept poster cleverly replaces some Rubik’s Cube panels with everyday objects — a wire brush, yarn ball, plastic bag, and pills — symbolising the fragmented yet colourful pieces of Zhao Yanhong’s life.
