Three Thai Crew Members Confirmed Dead In Strait Of Hormuz Vessel Attack

Date:

Thailand’s Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow has confirmed that three Thai crew members aboard a vessel attacked in the Strait of Hormuz last month have died.

The Thai-flagged vessel Mayuree Naree was struck on March 11 while sailing through the Gulf waterway after departing from a port in the United Arab Emirates.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards previously stated in March that they had targeted the vessel, along with a Liberia-flagged ship, claiming both had ignored warnings in the strategic maritime corridor.

Following the incident, 20 Thai crew members were safely returned home in mid-March, while three others were reported missing and later presumed trapped in the damaged engine room of the vessel.

Speaking at a press briefing, Sihasak said the three missing crew members had been found but had unfortunately died in the incident.

The vessel’s owner had earlier confirmed that human remains were discovered onboard in the affected area, though identification was still pending at the time.

The Thai foreign minister also expressed gratitude to Omani authorities for assisting in the safe return of the surviving crew members.

In related developments, the United States and Iran have reportedly agreed to a temporary ceasefire, allowing limited passage through the Strait of Hormuz under coordination with Iran’s armed forces.

Maritime tracking data indicated that at least two vessels have since passed through the waterway following the reopening arrangement.

Sihasak added that he plans to visit Oman in mid-April to seek assistance in coordinating with Iran for the safe passage of nine Thai vessels currently stranded in the strait.

Separately, a Thai oil tanker had earlier managed to transit the waterway safely without being required to comply with blockade-related conditions.
