Man Fined RM3,000 For Throwing Petrol Bomb At House In Kampung Demak Baru

Date:

A 23-year-old man has been fined RM3,000 by the Magistrates’ Court here after pleading guilty to threatening another man by throwing a petrol bomb at his house.

Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali handed down the sentence after Sulaiman Mohamat entered a guilty plea to a charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same law.

The offence carries a maximum penalty of up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Court documents stated that Sulaiman, together with another individual who remains at large, committed the act at a house in Kampung Demak Baru Phase 2, Jalan Bako at about 5.35am on March 21.

According to the facts of the case, the victim was alerted by a house alarm and later discovered a plastic bottle containing petrol near a vehicle, along with burn marks on the cement floor.

Closed-circuit television footage showed a silver car approaching the residence before a bottle believed to contain petrol was ignited and thrown into the compound. Although no major structural damage occurred, scorch marks were found outside the house.

Investigations led to Sulaiman’s arrest at about 1.50pm on April 1 at a house in Kampung Tupong Tengah, Petra Jaya. Police also seized a silver car and two mobile phones, which were handed over by the accused.

Further findings revealed that Sulaiman acted with an accomplice, who is still on the run, and that the attack was intended as intimidation after he was allegedly paid RM100 to carry out the act.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Afiq Safly Nor Kazly prosecuted the case, while the accused was not represented by counsel.
