A 75-year-old woman was injured after being allegedly attacked by her nephew during a domestic dispute at a residential community in Miaoli City on Friday afternoon (April 18).
The incident occurred at around 4.30pm when a verbal argument reportedly broke out between the elderly woman, surnamed Xie, and her nephew. The situation escalated when the suspect allegedly went into the kitchen, grabbed a kitchen knife, and attacked her.
The victim sustained multiple injuries, including an 8cm wound on her right wrist, a 4cm cut on her right forearm, and a 5cm injury on her right toe. She was found at the scene with her right hand and leg heavily bandaged before being rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.
Local authorities said they were alerted after a neighbourhood leader reported that the woman had been assaulted and was found lying on the ground before being sent for medical care.
Following the attack, the suspect reportedly locked himself inside a room at the residence. When police arrived and ordered him to come out, he refused to comply. Officers later called in a locksmith to force entry and successfully detained him.
Preliminary information suggests that both the suspect and victim were living in the same household. However, the exact motive behind the attack remains unclear and is still under investigation.
The case is being investigated under attempted murder and domestic violence prevention laws and has been referred to the Miaoli District Prosecutors Office for further action.
