A shop assistant was fined RM3,500 by the Magistrate’s Court after pleading guilty to peeping at a woman inside a toilet at the Sentul Light Rail Transit (LRT) station.
The accused, 23-year-old Abdul Samad Rosman, entered his plea before Magistrate Aina Azahra Arifin, who also ordered a four-month jail sentence if he fails to pay the fine.
According to the charge, the incident occurred around 8am on April 16 when the man was found to have outraged the modesty of a 44-year-old woman while she was inside the female toilet at the LRT station in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur.
He was charged under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
The prosecution, led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Syafika Azwa Fikri, urged the court to impose a proportionate sentence, stressing the importance of protecting public safety and personal dignity.
However, defence counsel CH Low, representing the accused through the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK), appealed for a minimum fine, stating that the accused was supporting parents who suffer from multiple health conditions.
The defence also noted that the accused had expressed remorse, pleaded guilty at an early stage, and promised not to repeat the offence.
