The Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) has stated that the “Songkran Sunset Splash Run” event did not fully comply with the conditions approved for its organisation.
DBKK said monitoring of the programme found several aspects that did not meet the stipulated requirements, particularly in relation to water usage and concerns over cleanliness as well as public safety.
The council described the matter as serious, noting that it involves adherence to approved event guidelines and the overall cleanliness of Kota Kinabalu. It added that appropriate enforcement action will be taken against the organiser in line with existing laws and regulations.
In addition, DBKK has instructed the organiser to carry out immediate clean-up works to restore affected areas to their original condition.
The city authority stressed that all events held within Kota Kinabalu must fully comply with approval conditions, with priority given to safety, cleanliness and public well-being. While it continues to support initiatives that benefit the city, DBKK said it will not compromise on any breaches of rules and requirements.
Earlier, DBKK noted that the inaugural event had attracted strong public participation and contributed to a lively atmosphere in the city.
