Vladimir Kolokoltsev has arrived in North Korea for official talks focused on strengthening cooperation between the two countries, according to Russian authorities.
Russian Interior Ministry spokesperson Irina Volk said discussions will centre on law enforcement collaboration between Moscow and Pyongyang. She shared the update via Telegram, along with images showing Kolokoltsev being received upon his arrival in the North Korean capital.
The visit comes as Russia and North Korea continue to deepen ties following Moscow’s 2022 military offensive in Ukraine. Relations between the two countries have significantly expanded in recent years, including high-level diplomatic exchanges and strategic agreements.
In 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Pyongyang, where both sides signed a “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty.” The agreement reportedly includes provisions for mutual defence cooperation, marking a major shift in bilateral relations.
Reports also indicate that under the terms of the partnership, North Korea deployed approximately 14,000 troops to support Russian forces in the Kursk region following a large Ukrainian incursion, further highlighting the growing military dimension of their alliance.
