Top Spanish Bullfighter Seriously Injured After Being Gored By A Bull

Date:

A leading Spanish bullfighter has been left with serious injuries after being gored during a performance in Seville on Sunday.

Jose Antonio Morante Camacho, widely known in the bullfighting world as one of the sport’s most prominent figures, was injured while taking part in an event at the La Maestranza bullring as part of the city’s April celebrations.

The incident occurred when Camacho, 46, was attempting to control a bull during the fourth fight of the afternoon. Reports said the animal positioned itself in a difficult area of the arena, prompting the matador to attempt a risky manoeuvre.

However, he was unable to react in time, and the bull charged, striking him at hip level and goring him in the rear, causing a severe injury.

He immediately collapsed to the ground in pain before being carried out of the ring by fellow bullfighters and rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.

Medical reports confirmed that Camacho suffered a serious internal injury, including damage to muscle tissue and a perforation of the rectal wall, requiring urgent surgery.

Doctors performed a two-hour operation to clean and repair the wound and stabilise his condition, which remains critical under close observation.

The latest incident adds to a series of serious injuries and fatalities in Spain’s bullfighting circuit in recent weeks, highlighting the ongoing risks associated with the traditional sport.
