Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) Melaka is actively tracking individuals believed to be misusing the force’s name to solicit donations from the public via WhatsApp.
Melaka Police Chief, Dzulkhairi Mukhtar, said a report was lodged regarding the circulation of a message claiming to promote a programme allegedly organised by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department at the Melaka Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK).
The message referenced a so-called “Integrity Enhancement and Basic Driving (SOP) Course for the Traffic and Transport Branch IPK Melaka Series 2/2026,” which was purportedly scheduled to take place at Maktab Teknik PDRM Cheras from today until 24 April 2026.
“Checks have confirmed that no such course or programme has been organised by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department of IPK Melaka,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
The message also featured images of uniformed personnel, references to locations within IPK Melaka, and included bank account details to collect public contributions, raising further suspicion.
Police stressed that the misuse of the department’s name is a serious matter as it could mislead the public and damage the reputation of the security forces. Authorities believe the act carries elements of fraud aimed at gaining unlawful financial benefit.
Investigations are being conducted under Sections 420 and 511 of the Penal Code, which carry penalties of between one and 10 years’ imprisonment, along with whipping and fines.
Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of any fundraising efforts before making contributions.
