A confrontation between a female driver and a security guard in Yong’an, Fujian province has gone viral online, sparking heated debate over self-defence and excessive force.
Footage circulating on social media shows the woman stepping out of her vehicle and kicking the security guard, who then immediately responds by slapping her in the face. The force of the blow is heard clearly in the clip, with the woman’s glasses nearly flying off. She later reportedly suffered a ruptured eardrum following the incident.
Initial public reaction largely sided with the guard, with many netizens arguing that his actions amounted to self-defence. However, the narrative shifted after additional claims emerged suggesting the situation may have escalated earlier, with some alleging the guard had verbally abused the driver and forcefully closed a car door on her leg.
Local reports said the incident took place outside a school in Yong’an, where the woman was picking up her child. Police have since launched an official investigation into the case, which has now been formally filed.
Further confusion arose over the guard’s employment, with authorities clarifying that he was not directly employed by the nearby school but worked for a contracted security company assigned to the area.
Legal experts cited in mainland reports suggested that if the updated claims are confirmed, the guard’s actions prior to the physical confrontation could be considered unlawful. While the driver’s kick may still constitute an offence, it could be viewed in context as a response to provocation.
