Bangsar Nightclub Shooting Stemmed From Old Grudge And Turf War

Date:

The shooting incident outside a entertainment outlet on Jalan Telawi, Bangsar on April 22 is believed to have stemmed from a long-standing grudge and territorial disputes between organised crime groups.

The incident, which occurred at about 3am, involved a confrontation between two groups before a single gunshot was fired.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M Kumar said the shot struck a local man in the abdomen, who was later rushed to hospital for treatment.

“The victim is currently in stable condition and is still receiving treatment,” he said during a press briefing at Bukit Aman.

He added that intelligence and investigations by the Special Operations Division (D8) and Serious Crime Division (D9) led police to a hotel raid in Klang, Selangor.

“In the raid, two local men were arrested within 24 hours of the police report being lodged,” he said.

Police also discovered a pistol along with ammunition, as well as another object believed to be a replica firearm in the hotel room.

“We believe one genuine firearm was seized, while the other is still under investigation to determine whether it was used in the incident, pending forensic analysis,” he added.

The suspects, aged in their 20s and 30s, are believed to have prior criminal records, including drug-related offences.

Kumar said initial investigations indicated the shooting was triggered by past conflicts as well as territorial disputes between the groups involved.

He did not rule out the involvement of organised crime elements in the case.

“The term ‘secret societies’ is no longer appropriate as it is not defined under current legal provisions,” he said, adding that organised crime refers to groups involved in serious offences punishable by at least 10 years’ imprisonment.

Both suspects have been remanded until April 29, and the case is being investigated under the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 and Section 307 of the Penal Code.
