DAP’s Lim Guan Eng Defends Wong Siew Ki, Accuses PAS Of Hypocrisy

Date:

DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng has criticised PAS over its attack on Seri Kembangan assemblywoman Wong Siew Ki, accusing the party of applying double standards after labelling her “treasonous” for suggesting a review of Selangor’s pig farming policy.

In a statement today, the Bagan MP said Wong was merely performing her duties as an elected representative in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly and had not misled or lied to the House.

He contrasted the situation with a former PAS minister who was previously reprimanded by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in 2021 for allegedly misleading Parliament over the revocation of Emergency Ordinances.

Lim questioned why no action was taken against that PAS leader at the time, while Wong is now facing strong political backlash, suggesting that age and gender could also be factors influencing the criticism.

“If PAS is consistent and responsible, they should have taken action against the PAS minister who was reprimanded by the King,” he said.

He also expressed disappointment that UMNO had joined PAS in condemning Wong over the matter.

The controversy stems from objections linked to the Sultan of Selangor’s stance on pig farming activities in the state.

Lim further said Wong continues to have full support from DAP and the public, adding that she should not be intimidated despite facing protests and threats.

He also referenced the 2021 parliamentary episode involving then law minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, when announcements regarding Emergency Ordinances led to royal reprimand and confusion over parliamentary proceedings.
