Police in Melaka have called on a chartered bus driver seen in a viral video allegedly behaving aggressively and making an obscene gesture towards another motorist to come forward to assist investigations.
Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Christopher Patit said the footage surfaced at about 2pm on Thursday after being widely shared on Facebook, uploaded by an account under the name Muhazam Shah.
He said a 61-year-old local man driving a Proton Persona lodged a police report at 11.38am the following day regarding the incident.
Preliminary investigations found that the victim was travelling from Plaza Mahkota towards Kota Laksamana when his car was allegedly sideswiped by a chartered bus near a bend close to a private hospital, causing him to nearly crash into a traffic cone.
The bus is also believed to have overtaken the victim’s vehicle later and attempted another sideswipe near the Syed Abdul Aziz Bridge, forcing the car to almost collide with a roadside wall.
The situation escalated when the victim followed the bus, which eventually stopped on the roadside in Kota Laksamana. The victim’s son then approached the bus driver to obtain details.
However, police said the driver, believed to be a local man, allegedly acted aggressively and attempted to provoke and fight the complainant’s son.
The case is being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for dangerous driving.
Police have urged the bus driver to step forward and stressed that they take the matter seriously due to the potential danger posed to other road users.
Members of the public with information have been asked to assist investigations by contacting the nearest police station.
