A birthday celebration in India turned into a deadly shooting after a man allegedly returned with firearms following a prank involving cake being smeared on his face, leaving three people dead.
The incident took place at a gym in Bulandshahr, southeast of New Delhi, where Jeetu Saini was celebrating his birthday with friends and relatives.
According to reports, the situation escalated after one of his friends playfully smeared birthday cake on his face, which allegedly angered him. He then left the venue in a rage.
Witnesses said he later returned with multiple weapons and accomplices, reportedly opening fire inside the gym without warning.
Three victims – identified as Amardeep Saini (26), Manish Saini (23) and Akash Saini (23) – were struck multiple times. All three were pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital. Police said the victims were also believed to be relatives of the suspect.
A family member of one victim told local media that the attacker allegedly arrived with several firearms and began shooting immediately, leaving no opportunity for escape.
Police rushed to the scene, cordoning off the area as a crime scene and launching a manhunt for Jeetu and his associates. Authorities also confirmed that several suspects have been detained in connection with the case.
Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage and collecting forensic evidence from the site.
Police said preliminary findings suggest a dispute escalated rapidly following the prank, though investigations are ongoing to determine the full sequence of events and those responsible.
