World’s Longest Tiramisu Record Broken In London With 440-Metre Dessert

Date:

The record for the world’s longest tiramisu has been officially broken in the United Kingdom after chefs created a massive 440-metre-long version of the classic Italian dessert in central London.

Around 100 Italian chefs gathered at Chelsea Town Hall over the weekend to assemble the record-breaking sweet treat, surpassing the previous global record by a significant margin.

The enormous tiramisu measured 440.6 metres in length (approximately 1,445 feet), with chefs confirming it stood more than 8cm high and 15cm wide, according to organisers.

The achievement was led by Italian entrepreneur Mirko Ricci alongside the London branch of the Federation of Italian Chefs, working together to complete the dessert in accordance with Guinness World Records requirements, which mandate live preparation on-site.

The recipe used for the record attempt included a staggering 50,000 sponge fingers and over 3,000 eggs, making it one of the largest dessert productions ever undertaken for a culinary record.

The previous record, held by a team in Milan, measured 273.5 metres, meaning the London creation significantly exceeded the earlier benchmark.

Ricci, who previously held the title in 2017 before it was later reclaimed by another Italian team, described tiramisu as “the most incredible dessert that Italy has exported” and said the project celebrated Italian culinary heritage.

The giant dessert was completed with a decorative golden crown, symbolising the record-breaking achievement, and was presented as part of a celebratory event honouring both Italian cuisine and cultural tradition.

Tiramisu, traditionally made with layers of coffee-soaked ladyfinger biscuits, mascarpone cream, cocoa powder and egg yolks, is widely believed to have originated in northern Italy in the late 1960s, though its exact origins remain disputed.
