Police are investigating an assault case after a viral video showed a man being punched by another individual in Kota Setar, Kedah.
The one-minute-22-second clip, which has been widely circulated on social media since yesterday, shows the suspect accompanied by several men at the scene before allegedly striking the victim, causing him to fall to the ground.
Kota Setar District Police Chief ACP Syed Basri Syed Ali confirmed receiving a report regarding the incident, which is believed to have taken place on April 20 at around 10am in front of the victim’s home in Titi Gajah.
He said preliminary investigations found that the 38-year-old victim was believed to have had a misunderstanding with the suspect’s wife two days prior to the incident.
Based on CCTV footage review, the 41-year-old suspect, who is known to the victim, was seen punching him outside his residence before he collapsed.
The victim was later taken to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, where he was admitted to the emergency ward after experiencing vomiting and dizziness. He was also given anti-seizure medication and placed under observation due to suspected internal head injuries.
Doctors advised the victim to lodge a police report for further action following concerns over his condition.
Police said the victim’s statement has been recorded, and he confirmed receiving emergency treatment and continued monitoring at the hospital.
Syed Basri added that statements from the suspect, the victim, and three witnesses have been taken as part of the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
