UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) Negeri Sembilan have announced that they are withdrawing their support for Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, who is also the Sikamat state assemblyman from PKR.
State BN chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias said the decision was made unanimously by all 14 UMNO/BN state assembly members following what they described as an ongoing “adat crisis” affecting the state administration.
He said an official notification of the decision would be submitted to the Speaker of the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly, Datuk MK Ibrahim Abd Rahman, on the same day.
Jalaluddin expressed deep disappointment over the situation, saying it could potentially disrupt the state government’s administration and impact political stability and public harmony.
“As a result, all 14 UMNO/BN assemblymen have unanimously lost confidence in the Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan and are withdrawing their support for the state government led by him,” he said at a press conference.
All UMNO/BN assemblymen attended the briefing except Rantau assemblyman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who is also UMNO deputy president.
Jalaluddin, who is also Jelebu MP and a senior state executive councillor, claimed that BN representatives in the state executive council were not informed of discussions regarding the adat-related issue and only became aware of it when it had escalated into public debate.
He said the Menteri Besar should have played a more proactive and strategic role in handling the matter.
UMNO/BN also reiterated its full support for the preservation of traditional institutions and adherence to the Negeri Sembilan Constitution, known as the Undang-Undang Tubuh Kerajaan Negeri Sembilan 1959.
The coalition stressed the need for a stable government to ensure effective administration and to focus on the state’s economic development and public welfare.
For context, Negeri Sembilan has 36 state seats. Following the 12 August 2023 state election, UMNO/BN formed the state government together with Pakatan Harapan, holding a combined total of 31 seats, while Perikatan Nasional holds five seats.
