Two Women Brawl On Shanghai Subway Over Seating Row

Date:

A physical altercation broke out on Shanghai Metro Line 1 last Saturday afternoon after two passengers allegedly fought over a seat, with the incident widely circulated online after being filmed by commuters.

According to Shanghai Railway Transit Police, the incident occurred at around 2pm on April 25, 2026, inside a train carriage. Officers confirmed that a 32-year-old woman surnamed Zeng and a 66-year-old woman surnamed Wu were involved in the dispute.

Preliminary investigations found that the confrontation was triggered by a disagreement over seating, which quickly escalated into a physical fight inside the crowded carriage.

Videos shared on social media show the two women pulling each other, grappling on the floor, and engaging in a struggle as shocked passengers looked on. Several commuters later alerted station staff, who intervened and escalated the case to police.

Authorities have since filed an administrative case and confirmed that further action will be taken in accordance with the law.

Shanghai transport police also issued a reminder urging passengers to observe public transport rules and maintain order while travelling, stressing that any behaviour disrupting normal operations will be dealt with strictly.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
