A routine afternoon at a jewellery shop on Jalan Ahmad Shah turned into a bold theft incident when a man posing as a customer made off with a RM5,000 gold bracelet before escaping in a waiting getaway car.
Shop owner Kamalul Hayat Redzwan, 32, said the suspect arrived at around 1pm on April 27 and asked to view a gold bracelet on display, claiming interest in purchasing the item.
“He appeared familiar as he had visited the shop last week to look at the same bracelet, so I assumed he had returned to buy it,” he said.
Kamalul Hayat added that he handed over the bracelet for the suspect to try on, but the man suddenly bolted from the shop and jumped into a black Perodua Bezza where an accomplice was waiting.
“I gave chase on my motorcycle, but the vehicle sped off towards the Temerloh bridge. The whole incident happened in less than five minutes,” he said, adding that CCTV footage captured the act.
He expressed hope that the suspect would be swiftly apprehended.
Meanwhile, district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nasyim Bahron confirmed that police received a report on the incident at 1.20pm.
He said investigations are ongoing under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.
