Lorry Attendant Jailed 18 Years And Caned For Death Of Three-Year-Old Boy

Date:

A lorry attendant has been sentenced to 18 years in prison and two strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court after pleading guilty to causing the death of a three-year-old boy in an incident on April 11.

The accused, 30-year-old Muhammad Firdaus Zamri, entered his guilty plea after two charges were read before Judge Mohd Zul Zakiqudin Zulkifli.

For the first charge, the court imposed 18 years’ imprisonment, while for the second charge he received four years’ jail and two strokes of the cane. The sentences are to run concurrently from the date of his arrest.

Under the first charge, Muhammad Firdaus was accused of causing the death of Muhammad Adamdanial Abdul Khafidh by committing an act likely to cause bodily injury resulting in death.

The offence was committed at an unnumbered house in Kampung Banggol Katong at around 6pm on April 11, 2026, and was framed under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 30 years and liability of a fine upon conviction.

For the second charge, he was accused of voluntarily causing hurt to the same child using a rattan stick at the same time and location, an offence under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which carries imprisonment of up to 10 years, or a fine, or caning, or any combination of these punishments.

Court proceedings turned emotional when the Deputy Public Prosecutor appeared visibly moved and in tears while delivering submissions, stressing the vulnerability of the young victim.

She said the child, aged just three years and nine months, was still at an age where protection and care from adults were essential, not exposure to harm.

“Children of that age should be under the care and protection of guardians, not subjected to cruel and inhumane treatment,” she said.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Aisyah Mohamad, while the accused was represented by a lawyer from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK), Muhammad Hafizuddin Abdul Haris.

Earlier reports on April 23 stated that the accused had pleaded guilty after both charges were read in court.
