The General Operations Force (PGA) has uncovered a firearm and drugs during a raid on a house occupied by a married couple in Ladang Sawit FELDA Purun, Bera, in an operation linked to Op Taring Laras.
The raid was conducted at about 7.50pm following intelligence gathering on suspected illegal activities in the area. Officers moved in after monitoring the location for suspicious behaviour, highlighting ongoing enforcement efforts in plantation settlements where hidden criminal activity can sometimes take place.
According to PGA, Pasukan Gerakan Am officers carried out a thorough search inside and around the premises, where they discovered a homemade air rifle along with 1.9 grammes of suspected syabu. The total value of the seizure is estimated at RM1,080.
Authorities said the suspected drug supply is believed to have been obtained through local contacts, while the air rifle was allegedly used for hunting wild animals. Such findings point to a combination of drug-related and firearm-related offences within the same household, raising concerns over rural enforcement challenges.
Investigations also revealed that the couple, both Indonesian nationals from Lombok, failed to produce valid identification documents. They are believed to have entered Malaysia illegally through the Johor maritime route and have been residing in FELDA Purun since 2024.
A general principle in enforcement cases is that undocumented residency combined with criminal possession of weapons or drugs often leads to multiple charges, as authorities seek to address both immigration breaches and public safety risks simultaneously.
Preliminary urine screening showed that the male suspect tested positive for methamphetamine, while the female suspect tested negative for drugs. The man is believed to be working as a plantation labourer earning around RM2,000 per month, reflecting the typical employment profile of some undocumented workers in plantation sectors.
Both suspects have since been taken to the Bera District Police Headquarters for further investigation under relevant laws, as authorities continue efforts to curb illegal firearms possession and drug-related activities in rural settlements.
