Police Hunt Man Who Stole RM26,000 Jewellery From Jerantut Goldsmith Shop

Date:

Police are tracking down a man who allegedly stole jewellery worth nearly RM26,000 from a goldsmith shop in Jalan Dulang 1, Jerantut, on Tuesday afternoon.

Acting Jerantut District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Arshad Ayob, said the suspect entered the premises at about 3pm dressed in a shirt, shorts and a cap, and initially posed as a customer interested in purchasing an engagement ring.

He later requested to view several items, including bracelets. “The victim took out several items for the suspect to choose from, including three 916 gold bracelets, a gold ring and a silver ring,” he said.

However, while the sales assistant briefly turned away to retrieve additional items, the man seized the opportunity to grab the jewellery from the counter and fled the scene.

“The victim tried to chase after him, but the suspect managed to escape. It is still unclear what mode of transport he used,” Arshad said.

The total loss is estimated at RM25,901.

The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.

Arshad added that forensic teams have recovered two fingerprints from the scene, while CCTV footage from the premises is also being reviewed as part of ongoing efforts to identify and locate the suspect.
