Police have refuted viral claims that a 19-year-old woman found dead in Kampung Simah, Ketereh, had suffered 105 stab wounds, clarifying that post-mortem findings recorded 61 injuries.
Kota Bharu district police chief Mohd Azmir Damiri said the victim, a student from Kolej Poly-Tech Mara, sustained multiple stab wounds ranging from the face to the legs, with the majority concentrated on the right side of her body.
He emphasised that the 61 wounds identified do not include minor cuts or superficial injuries, and are consistent with the official statement previously issued by the authorities.
In the same development, police confirmed that the motive behind the killing has yet to be established, despite the remand of four suspects. Those detained include two 19-year-olds and two older individuals, believed to be the parents of one of the suspects.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing, with efforts focused on determining the circumstances and motive behind the incident. No additional arrests have been made at this stage.
The victim, identified as Nurfisya Zulkifly, was discovered by villagers at around 12.30am after she was believed to have gone out for a meal with one of the suspects prior to the incident.
The case has drawn widespread attention online, particularly following the circulation of inaccurate claims regarding the number of stab wounds, prompting police to issue a clarification to prevent misinformation.
