“Let Me Go First”: Romantic Wedding SUV’s 1,146km Journey Goes Viral On China Highway

Date:

A black SUV travelling along a highway route from Henan to Gansu has gone viral online after drivers along the way reportedly gave way and offered blessings upon seeing a large banner tied to the vehicle’s rear.

According to reports from mainland media, a video recorded on April 30 showed the SUV displaying a bold message reading: “Let me go first, I’m going back to Gansu to marry the love of my life — 1,146km journey.”

The emotional declaration quickly attracted attention from other motorists, with many choosing to slow down, give way, and in some cases honk their horns in support as the vehicle made its long journey.

The groom, identified as Qi Wanbin from Wuwei, Gansu, said he had just completed a traditional “bride escort ceremony” at his wife’s hometown in Luanchuan, Henan, before driving her back to Gansu ahead of their wedding scheduled on May 2.

He explained that the banner idea came from the bride’s close friend, who wanted to create a meaningful “long-distance marriage journey” moment for the couple.

The couple reportedly met while working in Xinjiang, where their workplace relationship developed into a four-year romance before they decided to marry.

Qi said he was deeply moved by the public’s reaction, adding that many strangers along the route offered blessings, some even following the car briefly or stopping at service areas to congratulate the couple and share wedding sweets.

The unusual but heartwarming journey has sparked widespread discussion online, with many netizens praising the gesture as a symbol of modern romance and goodwill among strangers on the road.

Comments on social media described the moment as “touching”, with users wishing the couple happiness and long-lasting love as their 1,146km journey turned into a viral celebration of marriage and unity.
