A tragic road accident in Samut Prakan has claimed the life of a 12-year-old Myanmar boy after he was run over by an 18-wheeler truck along Thep Ratana Road (Bangna–Trat outbound), leaving his father injured and prompting a major police investigation.
The incident occurred at around kilometre 16 in Bang Chalong, Bang Phli District, where rescue teams from the Ruam Katanyu Foundation were dispatched following an emergency report. Upon arrival, responders discovered the child’s body in the middle of the road after he was fatally struck by a heavy vehicle.
Authorities confirmed that the young victim suffered catastrophic head injuries after being run over, and was pronounced dead at the scene. His father, also a Myanmar national aged 38, sustained injuries and was later transported to hospital for treatment.
The motorcycle they were riding had overturned in the middle of the roadway, while a nearby 18-wheel truck was found parked approximately 100 metres away. The driver, a 49-year-old man, remained at the scene and later identified himself to police as the operator of the vehicle involved.
Initial police checks on the truck revealed visible blood stains and tissue fragments on the left-side wheel, which were documented as part of evidence collection. Investigators also noted that the crash scene was chaotic, with traffic temporarily halted across two lanes.
Eyewitness accounts suggested that the motorcycle may have swerved to avoid a vendor’s cart travelling against traffic, before moving into the path of the oncoming truck. The truck driver, however, maintained that he attempted to avoid the motorcycle but was unable to prevent the collision.
Police have since recorded statements and are continuing investigations into the sequence of events. The truck driver has been summoned for further questioning as authorities work to determine liability in the fatal crash, which has left the local community shaken due to the young age of the victim.
