An NGO has lodged a police report against Negeri Sembilan Umno chief Jalaluddin Alias, accusing him of touching on sensitive 3R issues involving race, religion and royalty amid the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Megat D Shahriman Zaharudin, chairman of the Sekretariat Taat Setia Sokongan Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan, called on authorities to investigate Jalaluddin’s remarks made during Umno’s 80th anniversary celebration held on Saturday.
He alleged that Jalaluddin’s speech referenced the royal institution while commenting on the Negeri Sembilan political situation, which he claimed may contravene the state’s Constitution Laws 1959.
According to Megat, such remarks risked undermining the sensitivities and sovereignty of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, adding that matters involving royalty should not be drawn into political discourse.
“We believe the speech touched on the sensitivities and sovereignty of the institution of Negeri Sembilan’s Yang di-Pertuan Besar,” he said after lodging the report at the Dang Wangi police station.
He further urged Umno to take responsibility and ensure that its leaders avoid making public statements involving royal institutions in political settings.
The complaint comes after all 14 Umno assemblymen in Negeri Sembilan recently withdrew their support for Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun, citing dissatisfaction over his handling of the institutional crisis.
In his speech last Saturday, Jalaluddin reportedly detailed the sequence of events leading to the withdrawal of support, saying it was necessary to explain their decision.
When contacted, Jalaluddin said he was prepared to cooperate with any police investigation into the matter.
