A Malaysian man has sparked discussion online after revealing that a simple meal of white rice and bean sprouts at a restaurant in Selangor cost him RM10.90, despite the dish appearing modest and unassuming.
The customer, identified as Hamdzaini, shared his experience on Threads, saying he only realised the total price when he went to the counter to pay after selecting his food at the premises.
He later told local media outlet WeirdKaya that the restaurant did not display any clear pricing, leaving customers unaware of the actual cost until checkout.

According to the breakdown shared, a plate of rice cost RM2.80, half a portion of rice RM1.50, and a single scoop of bean sprouts was priced at RM6.60, with additional 6% SST bringing the total to RM10.90.
Hamdzaini said the price felt disproportionate, especially as the eatery was not a high-end establishment, and he expected the meal to cost around RM5 to RM6 based on typical local rates.
He added that he was on a diet at the time and had opted for a light meal after already consuming protein earlier in the day, but was taken aback by the final bill.
Despite his surprise, he said he proceeded to pay as he was hungry and chose not to raise the issue with the restaurant staff at the time.
He also noted that he intends to continue with his diet plan despite the unexpected dining cost, as he is preparing for an upcoming event.
The post has since drawn attention online, with many netizens questioning the pricing of the bean sprouts portion and suggesting that such charges appear excessive for a simple dish.
Some users also encouraged customers to be more cautious and recommended reporting unclear pricing practices to the relevant authorities.
