Pakatan Harapan (PH) is set to hold its first national convention in four years on May 17 as the ruling coalition ramps up preparations for the 16th General Election (GE16).
The one-day event, themed “Tekad Madani, Harapan Rakyat”, will take place at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre in Johor Bahru.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who also serves as PH chairman, is expected to deliver the keynote address. Senior leaders from coalition parties including PKR, Amanah and DAP are also expected to attend.
In a joint statement, PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil, Amanah deputy president Adly Zahari, and DAP national deputy chairman Syahredzan Johan said the convention aims to strengthen leadership unity, improve organisational coordination, and outline the coalition’s direction in addressing national issues.
They added that as the coalition leading the Madani government, PH will focus on strengthening the economy, ensuring political stability, and maintaining public confidence ahead of upcoming state elections and GE16.
The last PH convention was held in 2022 before the coalition returned to federal power following political shifts.
GE16 is scheduled to be held by February 2028, although political speculation continues over the possibility of an early election, potentially in the second half of 2026.
Observers note that an early general election could coincide with upcoming state polls in Melaka and Johor, with Melaka’s state assembly term ending this year and Johor’s running until April 2027.
